I want to welcome My Daughter Alexandria Lilly Lewis to this
World.
As of August 28th 2013, I have a Beautiful Little
girl,
Born at 6:45 pm after being in the hospital for 12 hours.
The night before we were to go to the hospital, I was
excited. Finally I was going to start a new chapter of my life. I found it
slightly difficult to sleep, but managed to fall asleep and stay that way (only
waking a few times to use the restroom). When I woke up I grabbed the things I
would need. It was 5:45 am and I was tired, at 6:15 we picked up Josh from his
Home, and at 6:30 am we arrived at the Hospital.
Check in went smoothly (thanks to pre-registration). I went
up stairs to the labor floor and they hooked me up to all the monitors and
placed my IV. I hate needles so you can just imagine my annoyance. At 8 am My
Doctor (Dr. Hubert) entered the room and broke my water. I was dilated to 4 cm,
having a few contractions and was really quite relaxed.
Josh and I watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail (I quoted
most the movie). Every Hour the nurse would check how much I was dilated. We
moved from Monty to Lord of the Rings (extended version) things were moving
along nicely. At around 9 they gave me the Epidural. (I had not felt many bad
contractions, but I had established a regular pattern and was in Active Labor.
Josh was My “Rock” He stood in front of me and took a glance
at the needle. I saw his eyes widen No
Josh!!! And told him “Don’t you say a word” he smiled at me. I grabbed his
red shirt, looked down and tried to breath. Josh breathed with me. I thought he
was trying to distract me when he started to shake my head, and thought I was
pulling him down (by his shirt) when he leaned his head on mine. But when the
Lady said she was done and I could sit up straight (I didn’t believe her and
refused to move for a min.). Josh Looked up and I watched as the color drained
from his face, and he staggered backwards. I had no idea what was happening. My
mother and the nurses rushed towards him and he leaned on my mom as she guided
him to the nearest chair. So my “rock”
was not as invincible as he seemed.

They started the Drip and I quickly became a little nauseous
and threw up… Now the only thing I was eating was Ice chips so I threw up
nothing… Ouch! When I started to feel better, we continued our movie and Josh
Joined me to play a few rounds of cards, I took a nap and they flipped me a few
times.
At 5 pm I started to feel cold after they checked me (8 Cm
dilated). And quickly it went from being cold to outright shivers to a fever of
103.7 within an hour. The Baby’s heart rate had increased to 190 and would not
go down. The Doctor, my mom, and the nurses looked worried and I was nearly out
of it. A few times I looked at Josh to see him pacing the floor.

When the anesthesiologist came in to inform me we were going
to have a C-section, I began to panic. Would
it hurt? What if I couldn’t bear it? Oh my, this is happening? She tried to
explain how it would feel. Giving me the analogy of fishing (I have not been
fishing in a long time, and know very little about It.) they only thing I got
from it was it was going to feel like a fish swimming in my stomach (which is
wrong). I looked at Josh and began to
tear up. Part of me didn’t want to do the surgery. From the beginning of this
pregnancy, it has not been a secret that I have wanted to give birth by C-section.
It seemed I was getting my wish.
There were so many emotions running through my head. I was
scared and did not wish to be alone. They told my mom that they would allow for
both her and Josh to be in the room during the surgery. Unfortunately they were
not able to go down at the same time I was. I was running a fever, scared and
unsure about what is going to happen. Once down there, they began to hook me up
and go through there procedures. Josh and My mother entered shortly (the nurse
gave Josh a chair, they didn’t want him to pass out again) Josh held my hand
even though it was cold. Surprisingly enough it gave me much comfort. When they
began cutting I felt like I was a rag doll
Josh turned to me and asked if he could stand up and look. I
said he could as long as he didn’t tell me what was going on. He stood and
watched (not once did he let go of my hand), my mother told him about the
instruments being used and it was a good thing I could not hear her. I was just
happy that I was still holding Josh’s hand.
When she was born I heard her scream and a small smile
crossed my face. They showed her to me and Josh. Then they gave her to my mom
to clean up. They told me she weighed 7 lbs. 4 oz. and 20 inches long. Then after
she was wrapped up and given a hat, they gave her to Josh. His face was bright
with happiness. I was exhausted, I wanted to hold her but I was lying on a
table all sliced and diced. My mom left with the little girl to give her a
bath. Josh left to get our things out of the room and put them in the Post-Partum
room. I closed my eyes and slept, I was exhausted.

I was taken up stairs after being fixed up. When we entered
the room, no one was there. They were all at the nursery watching the first
bath. As lonely as I was I was still tired, unfortunately they would not let me
rest, they kept me up with questions on how I was feeling. Then after about 45
min everyone came in the room and they brought the baby. It was at this time
that I got to hold her for the first time. She was the most beautiful baby I had
ever seen.
I am so very blessed to have her in my life. The
Lord has given me a gift that I am beyond grateful for. Now I can only take
care of her to the best of my abilities.
